Reverting to the Classics

If you notice an absence of modern colloquialisms from this blog, the reason is that I feel ill-equipped to use them. I am not in enough contact with users of such language. My mother-in-law and 5 yr old are not on the cutting edge of current slang, thankfully. However, these are the people with which I have the most interaction, so I have found myself at an embarrassing loss a few times recently, to the point that I think it best if I simply leave them to the teenagers and hip young adults.

I have publicly embarrassed myself once by calling myself a SAHM, which I understood to mean Stay-at-Home-Mom. HOWEVER, when others began laughing and pointed out that they understood it to mean sexy and hot mama, I was more than a little embarrassed. I also joked with Chris about the 7 year itch, as we are coming up that anniversary, and was again left with head hanging when I found out what is apparently the real meaning of that. There were others as well.

So I give up. I'm going to stick with good old standard English, thank you.
